The University of Kansas Hospital Authority Overcame Visibility Challenges in their Portfolio of Projects
Better See, Manage and Communicate with Project Portfolio Management
“Eclipse is unparalleled in terms of providing quick and intuitive visibility to a portfolio of projects, detailed tracking and project management capability, as well as ability to schedule resources and identify availability”

Kansas University Medical Center
University of Kansas Hospital is a premier academic medical center committed to serving as a health care resource for people of the Greater Kansas City area. One of their most recent achievements: The University of Kansas Hospital became the first hospital in Kansas to attain the ANCC Magnet Designation.
Information Technology Services (ITS) needed to bring attention to the portfolio of projects, highlighting the high-profile initiatives that affect patients’ care.
There was a need for a Project Management tool that would allow ITS to manage the portfolio of projects, providing high-level visibility to the senior level executives.
- No “dashboard” visibility of projects
- No easy way to track resources’ availability
- Assigning tasks to individual resources on projects is cumbersome
- Need to track hours on capital projects separately from regular activities
Over the course of three months, ITS conducted a selection survey of seven different tools trying to find the best combination of features and functionality. Eclipse by SolutionQ was chosen by the Project Management Office team and ITS Management because it provided very strong PM capabilities, executive “dashboard” visibility, and adaptability to ITS PMO standards.
